Flat Pack Living/Accommodation Container Project in Lebanon, 2024

Maxprefabs completed a living container project in Lebanon to support homeless individuals. These living containers were manufactured at Maxprefabs’s factory in Kocaeli, Turkey, and are primarily used by refugees in Lebanon. The porta cabins were shipped as a demounted flat pack system and assembled in Beirut by a local partner company.

Innovative Non-Welded System Technology

The accommodation containers in Beirut, Lebanon, are produced using non-welded system technology. They feature walls and roofs covered with well-insulated sandwich panels. The floor chassis is layered with a 16 mm thick fibercement board and topped with a 2 mm vinyl covering for durability and comfort.

Project Scale and Efficiency

  • Scope: 900 flat-packed accommodation containers were manufactured, shipped, and installed.
  • Timeline:
    • Manufacturing: 40 days
    • Transportation: 10 days
    • Installation: 20 days
  • Dimensions: Each container measures 240x600 cm (20 ft).

Efficient Shipping and Assembly

The flat-packed accommodation containers were shipped using 40 ft HC containers, with 10 units of 20 ft living containers fitting into a single 40 ft HC container. In total, 900 units were shipped using 90 containers. The bottom and top chassis were pre-installed in the factory, and panels, doors, windows, and installation kits were packed for easy assembly. Each container was assembled in just 2 hours by a team of three in Beirut, Lebanon.
